Care of Jewelry

Amber:

Store your amber jewelry by wrapping it in a soft cloth away from other pieces of jewelry to protect from damage. This also helps to prevent silver settings from tarnishing. Store amber away from sources of heat or direct sunlight. Clean amber with warm (never hot) water using a soft flannel cloth to gently wipe dirt and smudges from amber settings. Never use any soaps, detergents or ultrasonic cleaners. Polish amber gently by applying 1-2 drops of olive oil on a soft cloth or chamois. Remove any excess oil. This will bring out the natural sheen of the stone. Avoid exposing amber to extreme temperatures. Always apply perfume and hairspray before putting jewelry on.

Silver:

All silver naturally tarnishes, however, with a little attention it will remain as new. Humidity and chemicals cause silver to tarnish as well as the natural "oxidization" process. Whenever possible put your jewelry on after appying hairsprays, perfumes or other chemicals that can damage silver.  You can polish silver with a cloth specially treated to clean and protect the item. Always polish using a back and forth motion rather than circular to maintain a uniform appearance. It is best to store your silver jewelry in an air-tight plastic bag as exposure to air will increase the tarnishing process
.

Gemstones:

Care of gemstones may vary depending on the type of stones within the setting. For example, pearls and other delicate shells require gentle care in contrast to hard stones such as Amethyest or Jasper. Hard stones can often be cleaned with ultrasonic cleaners or mild cleaning solutions. It is always important to check with a jeweler if you are unsure what type of care and cleaning is required.
